Laconia firefighters help lame dog off ice on Lake Opechee – Fosters

One of the best things about New Hampshire – the local Fire Departments.

LACONIA — An arthritic dog unable to make it off the ice of Lake Opechee was rescued by Laconia firefighters at about 8:30 a.m. Monday.  Fire Chief Ken Erickson reported that firefighters donned their cold-water rescue suits before venturing onto the slick ice to help the dog to shore in the area of Franklin Street. Once the dog was safely on land, officials were able to identify the owner and even gave the dog a ride home. Erickson said the dog’s owner said the animal suffers from arthritis and would have been unable to make it off the ice without assistance.
