Friday News Round-up

The Keene Sentinel has an article about a local dog trainer, Denise Mazzola, who is participating in the Extreme Mutt Makeover contest.  She has eight weeks to train a shelter dog in basic obedience.  The final competition will take place on August 13th.  Denise is trainer with a lot of exposure in the Monadnock area.

She hosts a weekly television show on Cheshire TV called “Doggy Dilemmas.” She appears monthly on Dan Mitchell’s WKBK morning talk show, taking calls from listeners with questions about their pets.

She recently started a training academy in Peterborough, and her goal is to run a program, with a home base in Peterborough, that matches at-risk teenagers with at-risk dogs.

“I want to teach the kids how to teach the dogs because there are so many parallels that could happen,” she says.

The Union leader reports on the Pomeranian who managed to escape after being snatched by a coyote.

“A German-shepherd-sized coyote came out of nowhere and grabbed Teddy by the neck and ran off into the dark with him,” said Doyon. The brazen coyote was no more than six feet away from Demers when he snatched Teddy.

Bunky is indeed a very special dog. He circles the room, greeting the visitors. His big, pointed ears stand straight up when he hears a sound. He cocks his head and looks at the strangers with his big intelligent brown eyes. He sniffs…;guests pet him…; and eventually he walks away. A prize-winner and a star, Bunky also poses in advertisements for Cuddledown and is a social worker in a nursing home.

Bunky is Champion Sippiwisett Rogue Wave VCD1 RE TDX PT AXJ CGC VCX.  He  has titles in advanced herding, tracking, obedience, versatility and agility.
