MERRIMACK — The Chinook Club of America, Inc., the AKC parent club for the New Hampshire state dog, will be holding their national specialty on Sept. 26 at the Anheuser-Busch Brewery facility in Merrimack. This rare breed will have Class A Match competitive classes for puppies and adult dogs.

The brewery will also be the site of the of the Souhegan Kennel Club’s all-breed Match and Obedience and Rally trials as well as the Great Dane and Collie Club of NH specialties .Chinooks are a rare dog breed that accompanied Admiral Byrd to Antarctica in the 1920’s and were developed by New Hampshire author and explorer, Arthur Walden. By mixing several breeds, Walden created a sled dog unlike any other – a large, tawny dog with down ears and an easy-going disposition that was equally at home on the snowy trail or snoozing by the fire with the family.
